Large-Scale Composting with Proven Odor Control

Tulare Lake Compost (TLC) is a 175-acre facility in California's Central Valley that produces Class A compost using a Covered Aerated Static Pile (CASP) process. Agricultural residuals are blended with municipal biosolids to create a high-quality compost product, while BacTee's BioAer floor system on the biofilter provides odor control for the facility's receiving and mixing operations.

The Challenge

Receiving, mixing, and preparing organic feedstocks generates concentrated odorous air before material enters the ASP composting process. With the facility processing up to 100,000 wet tons annually, effective odor control was essential to support reliable year-round operation.

The project required a biofilter capable of treating high airflow volumes while delivering consistent performance and long-term reliability.

The BacTee Solution

Bactee's BioAer® floor system was installed beneath the facility's 164,800 CFM biofilter, which treats exhaust air from the receiving and mixing building before it is discharged.

By delivering uniform airflow throughout the biofilter media, the BioAer® system supports efficient biological odor treatment while minimizing pressure loss, reducing energy consumption, and providing a durable air distribution system designed for decades of operation.

TLC demonstrates how the BioAer® floor system integrates with large-scale ASP composting facilities to provide dependable odor control where it matters most.
