Advancing Municipal Organics Diversion in Quebec

 

The Compo-Haut-Richelieu Reginoal Composting Center (CHR) was developed to help municipalities divert food and green waste from landfills while supporting Quebec's commitment to reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Designed to process 50,000 tons of organic material annually, the fully enclosed composting facility combines BDP Industries's agitated composting bays with the BioAer® Floor System and an integrated biofilter to deliver reliable airflow, efficient composting, and effective odor control.

The Challenge

Processing large volumes of food and green waste requires a composting system capable of maintaining consistent biological activity while controlling odors in a fully enclosed environment.

The facility needed an aeration system that could distribute air evenly across multiple composting bays, supporting continuous operation, and integrate seamlessly with automated agitation equipment.

The BacTee Solution

The CHR facility utilizes eight concrete composting bays, each equipped with BDP agitation technology and the BioAer® aeration floor system (in both the process bays and the biofilter).

The system provides:

  • Uniform airflow throughout each composting bay

  • Reliable aeration for active composting

  • Low pressure loss for energy-efficient operation

  • Integrated odor control through the facility biofilter
