Proven Performance at One of the Nation's Largest Wastewater Treatment Facilities

The Joint Water Pollution Control Plant (JWPCP) in Carson, CA is the primary solids processing facility for the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts' Joint Outfall system, serving millions of residence across the greater Los Angeles area.

As surrounding communities continued to grow, effective odor control became a critical operational priority. The facility required a high-capacity biofilter system capable of delivering consistent performance while minimizing long term operating costs.

The Challenge

The dewatering building and biosolids storage silos generated large volumes of odorous process air requiring reliable treatment before discharge.

The project demanded a biofilter aeration system capable of delivering uniform airflow across the media bed while supporting heavy equipment used during routine media replacement and maintenance.

Before selecting a solution, the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts conducted an extensive evaluation of multiple biofilter floor technologies.

The BacTee Solution

Following comprehensive testing, the District selected the BioAer® Aeration Floor after LACSD's R&D staff declared BacTee's BioAer® floor system as clearly superior to the alternatives evaluated.

The BioAer® system was chosen for its:

  • Uniform air distribution throughout the biofilter

  • Low pressure loss for improved energy efficiency

  • Load-boarding design capable of supporting heavy wheel loaders

  • Reduced long-term maintenance requirements
